So Long June

I can't believe it's the last day of June already! I was thinking about it yesterday and realized this summer is the very last season it will be just us. Come Fall... baby makes 3! WAH WAH WEE WAH!

Yesterday, D and I did some more baby shopping. We bought:

-The Graco SnugRider. It's awesome, light-weight, and we're already getting a big chunky stroller w/carseat for free from some friends so we figured we'd get this small, easy to handle one that also only happened to be 70 bucks! We also scored a free Graco pack-n-play from the same friends. I was against getting one of these big ugly things but I know it will be convenient to have, especially when we're at other people's houses.. and geez ok I know not everything has to be cute and aesthetically pleasing! Here's D setting it up and being silly. I took these pics with my iPhone and it was dark so of course, they suck. I lightened the 2nd one as much as I could but it looks weird. Love his pose though haha.

- Weil Baby pacifiers. We already bought Weil bottles and really like the reviews and mom-references about the Weil products. 

-A changing pad

-An infant double headrest to put in the carseat to hold her head up.

-These adorable houndstooth leggings and this jumper/onesie! SWOON! I know we don't really need to buy any more clothes for her.. especially in sizes under 12 months... but I just can't help myself!

 Also, our pom poms came in the mail!!! They're everything I wanted and more! So we sat around forever "fluffing" them but haven't hung them yet because we're still not sure of the furniture placement in the nursery. It's a tricky room, that rectangle! We bought 7 of them but in only three colors: white, light gray & plum.

After shopping this mama bird was starving! So we went to Big City Diner. Don't worry, it's not a beer it's a cream soda.

ALSO: Jess was tagged to share the contents of her purse and asked that her readers do the same. Of course, I must oblige. 

The bag I'm currently using. I searched all over/inside this thing for a tag or label but there's nothing so I can't tell you who it's made by. All I can tell you is that I bought it on sale recently at a store in Pearlridge Mall called Papaya. I love it. Anything with studs gets me almost every time.

What's inside:

- My Flip video camera

-The rose/chains wallet I bought forever and a day ago.

-My iPizzle

-Sunglasses. Duh.

-Eclipse Breeze gum. Delish

-GermX hand sanitizer. I am obsessed with carrying it with me at all times now. Maybe it's a pregnant thing but I figure a good addiction.

-Black eyeliner. I think this one is Revlon but I always try out different brands and the words have scratched off so I'm not sure.

-Sephora lipgloss in "rosy glow." Love this stuff! It has a perfect hint of color to spice things up a little bit when you don't want full-on lipstick. 

-Rosebud moisturizing lip balm

-My keys/keychains. I bought the "D" and "J" over a year ago(have I mentioned I'm completely obsessed with anything initialed/monogrammed??) There's also my little anchor heart keychain. I had to blur out the other keychain because it's baby bird's initial! Sorry, for my eyes only! (go ahead and just try to enhance the photo and figure it out... you won't!!) And yes, I already bought it months ago.. I told you we were 100% certain about the name! Just wish other people would stop using it haha.

Song Bird

Into the band archives we go..

Show at Next Door in Chinatown. I think this was the one where I got wasted and went into a 3 minute rant about how all guys suck. I was obv single at the time(this was before D and I started dating) and Derek actually walked off the stage and cut the set short because I was being stupid. Ahhhh the good ol' days!

Mama bird! 

It was hard finding pictures where you could see both me and D since he's all mysterious in the background hiding behind the symbols...

So I'm not sure that I've mentioned this all that much... but D and I are in a band. A band that has been on hiatus, but a band nonetheless. Dolls Till Daylight's the name. Hence "2 Dolls + love = Baby Doll."

We actually met because of Dolls. We already had the members together except for the drummer and then D was recruited and the rest is history.

I can't even count how many times we've made, practiced and played music together and I can't wait to see how those music genes are passed on to our baby bird. I often sing to her and hope she can tell that I love music almost as much as I love her and her dad. I can't wait to get back into the music groove once our girl is here... in the meantime I'm just trying to stay inspired, write songs, play guitar and get acoustic sets together. 

Maybe one day the bird will look through all of our old band photos and actually think we're a little cool. ;o)

24 Weeks

Oh Baby!

At 24 weeks (6 months!) the bird is about 9 inches long and 1.7 lbs. Otherwise referred to as the size of an eggplant in my What To Expect updates. This week, her skin should be turning pinker because the capillaries are forming under her skin and filling with blood. No more see through epidermis! Also her lungs are developing some more (though not fully) and her nostrils (which have been plugged up until now) are starting to open... so practice breaths here she comes! 

Nothing new otherwise. Just the usual kicks and turns and growing. My belly button is super close to popping out (eek! no no no! stay in!) and I've been noticing that certain spots on my skin are changing color.. totally normal. I mostly just can't believe that I'm already 6 months pregnant! I know I keep saying that but GEEZ! Everyone keeps saying that I will actually want it to go by fast. Especially once I start to get uncomfortably huge. I guess I can see that in certain ways, but for the most part this is just freakin' me out! I have no breaks to slam on and I feel like I've lost all control.. which I have. Maybe that's the main issue here. My being a control freak or something. Either way I just keep trying to soak in these moments and look on the bright side of the future. Which is A BABY! A REAL LIVING BREATHING ALL MINE DON'T HAVE TO GIVE HER BACK CRYING LAUGHING POOPING SQUIRMING GROWING ADORABLE BABY! 

EXCITING! It still makes me grin like a hyena just imagining a little mini-us lying between me and D on our bed... or sitting in her Bumbo... or sleeping in her crib. I don't think it will even feel real once I have her though. Which is funny because I'd imagine after a little time, we wouldn't be able to imagine life without her at all.

Baby Bird, 

We love you times a trillion and my chest swells up with pride whenever I think about you and how accomplished you already make me feel. You're the best decision your dad or I have ever made.

6 MONTHS!

Today I am 6 months pregs!! WOO HOO! I can't believe how quickly it has snuck up on us!

Just wanted to say a quick hello and share these pics before we head out to run some more errands. We had a delicious lunch at Zia's Cafe to celebrate the day and everything was sooo good! I'm obsessed with their Plantation Iced Tea!

We Got Our Nails Did

Today I went with my gal pal Suzy Q to get pedicures...

Well she got a mani/pedi...

I just got my toesies done. Yes, I just posted a picture of my toes. 

Oh and the leg/foot rub was pure heaven..

In other prego news I bought two more pairs of leggings and a pair of "jeggings" (jean-looking leggings) the other day. I was already wearing the Belly Band so that I could continue wearing my regular jeans/pants, but now they're too tight when I sit down even unzipped and unbuttoned. Most women might be bummed to get to this point in pregnancy... feeling like a planet and all... but I was excited. I know I have my gripes about pregnancy sometimes, but 98% of the time I just LOVE it and I'm sad I only have 4 months to go.

I'm Lovin' It

Ok, so you might be wondering why the heck I'm posting a picture of myself with a McDonald's cup...

I just felt the need to document my experience today with a celebratory picture. 

Today after running a few errands, I decided to stop by the good ol' McDonald's drive-thru and treat myself to a chocolate shake.

I got more than that.

I got a side of "ego boost."

It's new on the menu.

Highly recommend it.

When I pulled up to pay, the African American kid at the window kept asking me about my pregnancy(he could clearly see my belly as he looked down into my car from the window) and he was being rather flirty. As he was handing me my change he asked "so you like the chocolate shakes huh?" To which I replied "um who doesn't?" He then said "yea... everything's better with chocolate..." and winked at me!!

I just giggled like a bashful little girl, shook my head and drove forward.

Although I see where this conversation was really inappropriate in customer service, and completely juvenile, I'm also pretty darn pregnant looking and ya know what? That made my day!

It's always nice to know this mama's still got it!

Good Golly!

Today was a great day.

I.AM.EXHAUSTED. 

But today was a great day.

I spent a little over 5 hours shopping and lunching with my lovely friend Dez(and the baby bird of course! It was her first serious shopping day!) I bought the load of stuff and it felt sooo good. It's actually been a long time since I've had a good shopping spree for clothes for myself. I really needed this girls day and I really appreciate it... thanks Dez! 

Now I just need a foot rub from D...

Ok Universe, You Can Stop Now

So I've got a beef with the Universe. What is it about finally picking out the official name of your baby (ok, so that was months ago but still) and then all of the sudden, you're seeing that name everywhere?? And for every kid??? I loved this name from before I was even pregnant but we hadn't made it official until we learned she was a girl. Before then, I never really saw it, heard it and most definitely did not know of any other kids by the name. Even through all of the baby blogs that I was reading, 

no one named _______.

Then, of course within the last two months I've seen it on 2 blogs, in a semi-recently released book and on one of the baby announcements at my doctors office. Ugh.

It was the same scenario for our boy name too. We were 100% certain of his name before even being pregnant, told people because we were so sure(and stupid) and all of the sudden it was all up in our face. It was more common so we of course, had seen/read/heard it but once it was the name we were using.... EVERYWHERE. 

Obviously, unless you make up some crazy ass name/word, someone else will have it. We definitely didn't invent it, and it's cute with a dash of cool so of course it can't ever be completely original. But, why the hell does it have to... almost seem to rise in popularity at the same time we're using it?? By the time our kid gets to kindergarten there will be 10 others sitting in the class with her, just like every other Jennifer, Erica, Sarah and Nicole...

Did anyone else experience this while they were deciding names? I have a feeling this happens a lot. The universe thinks it's sooo funny...

I hate you Universe. 

Pillow Bridge

The other night I desperately wished I could lay on my stomach while we were on our laptops in bed... I know, romantic. D made me what we're calling a "pillow bridge" but I'm more the actual bridge than the pillows are. They hold my upper and lower body just high enough for my belly to float over the bed. 

True love.

23 Weeks

BABY BIRD!!!

You have to slow down! I can't believe that today I have carried you in my body for 23 weeks! I feel like I can't wait to meet you but at the same time, will terribly miss these moments with you so close to me. I hope you are happy in there... seems like you are considering all the dancin' you do. My favorite moments are in the morning when I feel you lightly kick right when I wake up. As if we're on the same schedule and you just woke up too.. stretching those tiny little legs of yours and preparing for another day in utero. Today you swung with your daddy and me in our hammock again. I think the swaying was soothing for you because you were movin' all over the place before we got in. Those kicks turned into rolls which turned in to barely a budge. I think I know where one of your favorite spots in the house will be already. ;o)

Happy Father's Day

This is my dad. In case you can't already tell, he's super awesome and I love the shit outta him..

Dad, 

Today is your day and I'm so sad that we're not there with you to celebrate YOU. You have no idea the impact that you've had on my life. Always helping us along to be stronger and better. You (work)ed so hard and so ferociously to give us the best life you could and I'd just like to officially inform you that, you did. And still do. You taught me how to play the guitar, and helped me discover my passion for music. You bought me my first, and second, and third car and all that you asked of me was to fill the gas tank and give it a little wash now and then. I've grown up watching you love my mom and seeing your great relationship and for that I am also grateful. You set the bar high for all those silly boys in my life and of course your great example led me to Derek. You're serious when you need to be but most of all silly and fun. You've called me "pup" for as long as I can remember and to this day it's still my favorite nickname anyone has ever given me. 

I hope you know how much I miss you... and seriously you guys just need to move back to Hawaii already!!!

You may not be considered an "actual dad" yet to some people, with your daughter still in the womb and all... but you're already in my top two list of best dads ever. You already do so much to take care of our baby bird, and me. I want you to know that when you're not around she likes to send me secret morse code kicking messages telling me how great you are and that she loves you already. She can't wait to meet you, and I can't wait to see you two together...

I Heart The Weekends

One of my besties (who also married me and Derek) came over for a little R&R and mojitos out on the balcony. Yessss, don't worry they were virgin. Duh. Pretty much sugar-mint sparkling water.. and I liked it. Today was beautiful and I wish we took more pictures now.

We did have a little silly picture time with the baby.. 

Afterwards D and I enjoyed some time in our new hammock on the master balcony.

Change Is Good

As you can see, I've changed up the look of the blog.
Sometimes a gal just gets a little bored and needs to spice it up. It's obviously not that different but I mainly wanted to be able to center my posts. I'll probably redecorate more than once so don't mind me...

What She Said & Baby's Bed

My reading went really well yesterday. I walked out feeling refreshed and even more sure of the choices I've made and things I've planned on.

We talked about a lot of things. But, this is first and foremost a baby blog and I don't exactly need/want to share every detail of my reading so I'll just share the stuff about our baby bird and assure you that everything else was fabulous and helpful news. 

As for the baby, she knew:

-I was almost 6 months along 

-How horrible my morning(more like all day) sickness was

-The name we have picked out for her!

-That she's due in Oct.. though she didn't say if she'd be late, early, or right on time.

She informed me that:

-She would be beautiful and into the arts like her parents.

-Would be born in the morning, and most likely by c-section (sadface) because her umbilical cord would be wrapped around her neck (sadface). Everything would be fine, both me and baby safe, but she might have a bit of jaundice.

-She would be about 7lbs and 21 inches long(my mom later told me that I was also 21 inches)

-She would have my eyes and face shape but D's hair (red!!! she said lighter red like strawberry blonde), her hair will also be curly(mine is straight and flat but D's gets super wavy when it grows out) and she'll also have one dimple on her cheek just like her daddy.

-She will be tall and most likely be an actress.

-She's an old soul and seems to know about everything from a young age..."beyond her years"

-May have a birth mark on the back of her neck or on her left arm. (I later discovered that D, his mom and his sister all have birth marks on the back of their necks. No, I'm not a horrible wife for not already knowing this.. it's a slightly more red patch of skin that is considered a birthmark but hardly even noticeable.)

She also knew how much we wanted/love her, and how I in particular will be obsessed with her and miss her terribly even when she's just napping. She said that I'll want to stare at her all the time and I'll need to learn how to be separated from her. Even for short periods of time. D and I laughed about this later because, even though it seems obvious that most parents/moms might feel this way, we've already talked about how I'll be particularly bad about it. She hit the nail on the head with this one..

Otherwise she said I would have 3 kids total(she told me that the first time I went to her as well) and that the next will be a boy and the third will be another girl.

It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out... and to see just how accurate she can be.

In other exciting news:

Yesterday I discovered a huge box on our porch that contained

THIS!!!

Our crib! I love it so much! We wanted something modern and without a drop-side. I love how straight and clean the lines are and we're actually going to paint the bottom wood piece white. Don't worry we're using baby safe paint and it's not like she's really gonna get to it anyway. We still need to get a mattress and bedding. We found a crib similar to this one online and had to have it but didn't exactly want my mom paying the price for it. With some serious searching, she found this one at WAL-MART(online, they didn't have it in store here)! Umm hell yes! Such a score and it seriously looks exactly the same as the other one. The only difference being that the legs are round and the other more expensive crib's legs were square.

Also, the lilac Bumbo Seat we bought is in the bottom picture and you can see that the walls are practically the same color. So weird. 

So there ya have it folks. Another fun baby crazy day. Can't wait to meet our little girl and see those baby blues and curly red locks..

Embroidery and Mysterious Things

This is what I did yesterday... for my 2nd RVA Summer Camp project.

I think the water and o.j./R&R really helped because I feel so much better today. Now I'm not even sure if I was starting a cold, or if it was a 24 hour thing. Either way, feeling better is fine by me. 

Today, me and baby girl are heading to my psychic for a little insight. HAHAHA you say? NO. I don't care if you're the biggest skeptic or just flat out don't believe in this crap... the lady is legit. 

Too legit to quit. 

She.Will.Blow.Your.Mind. 

I like to call her "my" psychic because I would only ever go to her and she's the coolness so I like to pretend she only reads for me.(Even though she's uber popular, all the celebrities go to her when they vacation in Hawaii for career advice and shiz, and I had to book this appt 2 months in advance which is actually earlier than usual.)

I've only been to her once before but it was the most mind exploding, wtf how'd you know that, amazing hour of my life. She doesn't just say "you like some boy... he may like you... his name starts with a B... no? Ok how about K? I'm seeing a "K" now? No? Ok well you're a good person...your life will be good.."

She straight up says "who's DEREK?" Or "you have a cute little white dog named Kingston."(I did at the time) Obviously she said much more than that.. she knew details of my life that even I had forgotten about. Or things I never told anyone. She starts off telling you about yourself(I know, silly but it's to prove to you that she's the bomb dot com). Before I got from the door to the chair she said I had 6 tattoos(I do, and only 2 were showing). Then she continues into the path you're currently on and what she sees for your future. It's amazeballs I can't rave enough, obviously. She just spits out truth raps like a clairvoyant Snoop Dogg and I am her devoted groupie.

Anyway, I'm so excited! I just wonder about some music stuff and maybe she'll even talk about our baby bird! Actually I know she will because baby's such a huge part of my life. Plus, any other tips or advice is more than appreciated. I don't live by what she says to the extreme or "count on" her advice for anything... it's more about having a magical experience with someone who inarguably has a gift and then maybe get a little guidance as well.

So, if you believe me, yes you should be jealous. If you don't believe me, you should still be jealous because you're wrong.
